About Orchestra Partners


Orchestra Partners' unique approach to real estate stems from the distinctly different yet complementary backgrounds of its founders, John Boone and Hunter Renfroe. They became lifelong friends after rooming together at Birmingham-Southern College, where John studied history and Hunter prepared to become an engineer, each of them later gaining a master's degree in their respective fields from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dreams of one day helping to revitalize their hometown became a reality when they serendipitously found themselves moving back home at the same time. These two Birmingham natives bring a combination of problem solving and a deep respect for history and architecture to each project.

Hunter Renfroe

Hunter focuses on organizational strategy, finance, construction management and project management. He's had a passion for real estate and construction all of his life, earning his real estate agent's license at the age of 21. Hunter worked through college as a laborer and later an engineer for a large Birmingham construction company, Hunter spent several years managing the growth and leadership of his family's staffing business, where he also led the development and construction of its new headquarters. After studying in Boston for two years, Hunter returned to Birmingham where he and his wife, Whitney, became proud parents of their first daughter, Marley.

Hunter is a LEED Accredited Professional and a licensed real estate agent.

John Boone

John specializes in organizational strategy, market analysis, community development and project management. After flirting with a Ph.D. in History, he decided his skill set was better suited for the business world. He joined a capital markets firm in Washington D.C., where he also interned at the Woodrow Wilson International Center. Two years later, he left to pursue a real estate development career in South Florida, where he directed site selection and inception-stage planning of charter schools.

John is a member of the Five Points Alliance, the economic development council for Five Points South. He also volunteers with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Birmingham, and is actively engaged in community development throughout the city.

Development coordinator

Sarah Miller

Sarah is responsible for assisting the principals in the daily operations of our development division. She has a passion for project planning and organization. Sarah joins us after several years in the development and property management industry. After receiving her real estate license, Sarah knew she wanted to pursue a career in real estate development where she could help impact the future of

Sarah lives in Birmingham with her husband Brandon. She enjoys trying new recipes in the kitchen, planting seasonal gardens and traveling.

Howard McKay

Howard is responsible for assisting the development team with ongoing development projects. He joins us after more than 15 years in commercial and residential property management, brokerage, development and project management. Howard found a passion for walkable, urban communities while working in real estate development in Europe. Seeing the momentum and potential for revitalization of Birmingham, he moved back to Alabama in 2006 with the desire to be part of shaping Birmingham's future.

Howard and his wife Julia, a native of Austria, enjoy exploring all that Birmingham has to offer, with their three children, Lukas, Anna Sophie and Henry.

Philip Moore

Philip focuses on the operations of our assets and ensuring each property is consistently managed to the highest quality standards in conjunction with Orchestra’s goals and objectives.  Philip has over 20 years experience in construction and commercial property management. He has managed a range of properties including retail, medical, mixed use and multi-tenant office portfolios.  After spending time in the Washington, D.C. area managing various construction projects, he moved back to Alabama in 1997 with his wife, Christine, and two children, Mary Elizabeth and Benton.

Philip is a licensed real estate agent and holds the Certified Property Manager and Real Property Manager designations and is Past-President of the Alabama Building Owners and Managers Association chapter.

Kim Nixon

Kim is responsible for assisting Asset Management in the daily property activities, ensuring we meet the needs of our tenants while maintaining the integrity of the properties.  Kim comes to us with more than 10 years in the residential development & commercial construction environments.  While in the residential development industry, Kim found a passion for the development of lifestyle communities.  Kim is a licensed Realtor® and enjoys all things related to real estate, home & interior design, as well as historic restoration.

Kim lives in Chelsea and enjoys spending time outdoors and with her family, especially her beautiful granddaughters. .

accounting MANAGER

Denise Card

Denise brings over 11 years of experience in commercial accounting, including seven spent as a public accountant, with responsibilities spanning audit, tax, financial reporting and business management. She prepares all the accounting work for the Orchestra Partners portfolio; oversees financial statement analysis; and plays a major role in the preparation of financial statements, tax returns related reports and schedules to support financial reports.

She is dedicated to achieving business success by helping the company establish practical and sound tax and financial processes.Denise is a member of American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Council on State Taxation (COST). In her spare time Denise enjoys participating in community service activities.
